The overall driver death rate for 2005-08 models during 2006-09 was announced as status report by a survey of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Researchers computed driver death rates for all models with at least 100,000 registered vehicle years during 2006-09 and published on June 9, 2011.

For the first time since the Institute began comparing driver death rates among in the 1980s(see Status Report, Nov.25,1989), researchers adjusted for a variety of factors that affect crash rates, including driver age and gender, calendar year, vehicle age, and vehicle density at the garaging location on this times.

The highest rates of driver deaths are more than 75 driver death per million registered vehicle years, while the lowest rate is fewer than 22 driver deaths.

Hyundai and Kia have five models of a car accident on the highest rates of driver death.

In rankings of the highest death rates, Kia Spectra(station wagon) is 6th with the 102 driver mortality, Hyundai Tiburon is 8 th of 96 driver death, and Kia Rio is 12th with 89 of driver death.

In addition, Kia Spectra(4-door car) is 16th of the 82 driver death and Hyundai Elantra (so called the Avante in US) is 20 th of the 79 driver death among 25 models.

Driver death counts are from the Federal Fatality Analysis Reporting System and information about driver age, gender and vehicle density are from the Highway Loss Data Institute.

The IIHS expects this research is an important data to the car insurance companies and drivers and next one is computing now for release.
